She lived with her mother who worked in the shop down the lane. She had a younger brother who was 4 yrs old and their father was far away guarding their country from enemies.

Next week was her birthday, her 8th birthday. It was a special day not only because she was getting a yr older but because this birthday her father was coming back and the family would be together again after almost 18 months. She was particularly very much excited about the day. Every moment she was planning out with her mother and brother. The dress she will wear, the food that would be cooked, the friends that would come for the party and the most important the poem that she had learnt for her father.

Her mother had saved some money the special day. She went to the market to buy a beautiful dress for her daughter so that she can look as pretty as a fairy on that day. Her brother had painted a card especially for her. But the girl was only looking forward of meeting her father which would be the best gift she can get on her birthday. She had practised that poem thousands of time so that the moment her father enter the house she would sing it to him.

Finally the day arrived, she got up early and dressed like a fairy in the new dress. Her father was to arrive by lunch time. She could not wait till that time. Every 10 minutes she would ask her mother, “Mom how much time more will we have to wait for Dad?” She was sitting right in front of the main door, so that the moment the doorbell rings, she would open the door singing the poem for the Dad.

Atlast the door bell rung, she ran to the door and unlocked it, singing, but instead of her father, there was his coffin.

The neighbouring country had attacked the borders last week and her father died fighting for his country. The girl could never meet her father. This one moment took away the whole life from her. She still sings that poem for her father the first thing in the morning in the hope that the door bell would ring and her father would be standing there holding a doll in his hands as her birthday present.

Financial Study by an Engineer

Its like a nightmare for any engineer. Imagine making the big balance sheet which never balances, those profit and loss statements where half your time is spent figuring out what is gain and what is income or what is loss and what is expenditure and not to forget the great cash flow statements which always remind you of the debt you have to pay to your friends and your bankrupt condition. OOPs so much of torture!!!!!!!!

How can you expect a poor engineer to understand something with no logic behind? He has no reason for writing Dr for debit. Imagine his condition....a person who has reasons for everything happening around, has no reason for things he has to do. Freight inwards is also an expense and freight outward is also an expense!!! And those long never ending accounting standards...

But there is something to interest the engineer also and thats the financial ratios. He is happy to see them but when it comes to their analysis ...... poor man ..... he is again lost...somewhere an increase is beneficial somewhere a decrease.

What can the poor chap do!!!!!!!

PS: No offense against anyone or anything (any concept) :)

Last evening at Bangalore

It feels really sad to write a blog on such a topic. But today is my last evening in Bangalore.

I came to Bangalore about an year back. For a complete month, I faced a lot of problems from searching a house to the great treatment of autowallas..... But I managed and got used to the life here. This city has taught me a lot of things which am sure will help me in my life ahead.

It was sad to write an Adieu mail to all my team mates and friends at office. It took a lot of courage to press the send button. What added to all this was the grand farewell given by them. I thank them all for the concern and love they showed. You all made my day....a day which i can never forget.

Tomorrow I wuld leave this city, not even knowing if i would ever come back. But the memories would always be with me. This city would always be an integral part of my life...

Adieu!!!!

One rupee extra!!!!!

Yes this extra Re 1 has been bothering me from quite some time. The torture from auto-wallas in Bangalore was not enough that this new torture has come up. I am talking about the extra rupee that is charged by the shopkeepers whenever you buy any cold drink. This extra rupee goes in for the cooling of the drink. (I thought MRP includes that).

Though it might be only a single rupee which may not even bother anyone. But it is a matter of cheating the public. How can you pay more than what is printed as MRP, may it be only a single rupee. And the worst part of all this is that people are also willing to pay it.

My friends say that I am blogging for a rupee but they have to understand the rules and their duties behind it. The problem is that nobody is willing to take a step for it and thus we all end up paying which is not correct.

Pick the better and leave the good.....

How it feels when you have to pick the better and leave the good behind.....

That is what I am feeling right now. I know it sounds very pessimistic when you are getting the better and still crying for the good, but sometimes that good really means a lot. Probably even more than that better. But still you have to leave it.

I don't know how many of you have faced such a situation. The worst part of it is that you do not even know how to react on it. You are happy because of the new world that you are entering into but you are also sad because you are leaving behind something that means a lot to you. Something that you have lived with.

Yesterday one of my friends told me that "Don't cry over for what you are leaving behind, look forward to what you are getting in life". Very true! But still very difficult....
